Requirements for BCPM Inclusion
The following is the criteria for including courses in the Biology, Chemistry, math, and Physics (BCPM) GPA. Courses taught in the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Math are always included in the BCPM, including courses that are introductory, elementary, and/or for non-science majors.
BIOLOGY
Courses taught in the departments of an undergraduate institutions typically regarded as biological in nature. Depending on the institution, these departments might include the following:
Biology |
Biochemistry |
Botany |
Cellular &Molecular Biology |
Ecology |
Genetics |
Microbiology |
Physiology |
Zoology |
|
In addition, certain courses from other departments may be considered for the BCPM GPA if the course content is essentially biological in nature and more than 50% of the course covers such content. Examples of this may include:
Biomedical Engineering |
Kinesiology |
Neuroscience |
Psychology |
Consideration of courses not in traditional biological departments will be made on an individual basis by TMDSAS staff. Outside content experts may be consulted in some cases.
CHEMISTRY
Courses taught in the chemistry and/or organic chemistry departments of an undergraduate institution. Depending on the institution, other departments where applicable courses might be taught include the following:
Biochemistry |
Chemical Engineering |
Consideration of courses not in traditional chemistry departments will be made on an individual basis by TMDSAS staff. Outside content experts may be consulted in some cases.
PHYSICS
Courses taught in the physics and/or physical science departments of an undergraduate institution. In addition, certain courses from other departments may be considered for the BCPM GPA if the course content is essentially Physics in nature and more than 50% of the course covers such content. Examples of this may include:
Engineering |
Mechanical Engineering |
Consideration of courses not in traditional physics departments will be made on an
individual basis by TMDSAS staff. Outside content experts may be consulted in some
cases.
MATHEMATICS
Courses taught in the mathematics and/or statistics departments of an undergraduate institution.
Consideration of courses not in traditional mathematics/statistics departments will be made on an individual basis by TMDSAS staff. Outside content experts may be consulted in some cases.
